New friendships, new beginnings.
As the new school year begins, an unmistakable excitement fills the air—students are eager to delve into their studies, build a vibrant community, and forge lasting friendships.
On September 21, Kuwala proudly opened its doors to over 240 returning students, marking a significant milestone as we begin our 8th year as a Secondary School in one of the world’s most economically challenged countries. This year, we are more dedicated than ever to ensuring academic success while fostering the holistic development of each student. Our focus will be on nurturing intellectual growth and developing personal, social, and emotional skills to empower our students to thrive both in and out of the classroom. Together, we look forward to creating an enriching learning environment that promotes collaboration, resilience, and a passion for lifelong learning.
Various extracurricular activities will commence throughout the term, including club meetings, sports teams, and community service events. These programs provide students with valuable opportunities to explore their interests and showcase their talents outside the academic setting. Additionally, students can connect with new teachers, fostering meaningful relationships while developing regular study and review habits. These efforts aim to enhance their overall learning experience. The focus on teamwork and collaboration will help our girls adjust smoothly back into the rhythm of school life, setting them up for a positive and enriching first term. We can’t wait to see the incredible growth, remarkable achievements, and lasting friendships unfolding in the weeks ahead!

Kuwala has expanded its teaching staff to 13 full-time and five temporary teachers. Rachel, who previously served as Farm Manager, has transitioned into a teaching role, specifically focusing on Biology for Form 1. Her extensive knowledge and experience will enhance the teaching team.
Recently, the administration organized an impactful workshop focused on leadership, targeting both new and returning teachers within the school community. This engaging session sought to explore essential leadership concepts, prompting participants to reflect on critical questions such as: What does it truly mean to be a leader? How can one identify and develop their personal leadership style? Additionally, the workshop encouraged attendees to consider their preferences for being led, fostering a deeper understanding of the dynamics between leaders and their teams. Through interactive discussions and practical activities, participants could share experiences and insights, ultimately enhancing their leadership skills and building a stronger, more collaborative educational environment.
In addition, new teachers participated in an orientation day at Kuwala. Memory, the administrative educator, is cultivating a strong teaching team and fostering a school culture of discipline, excellence, and collaboration. To support these initiatives, the administration, in partnership with returning teachers, has set goals for preparation and planning time ahead of each term and will conduct review and evaluation sessions at the end of each term.
The 2024/25 Form 4 class at Kuwala has just celebrated a milestone, having been with us since Form 1. Their journey culminated in a fantastic graduation event in July, showcasing their growth and achievements. This group exemplifies the power of a supportive culture and a disciplined environment dedicated to excellence. Kuwala proudly achieved a 100% pass rate for this class, with an impressive 62% of students moving on to university or college programs. Notably, this year also saw record-breaking student scores. Congratulations to our talented students for their perseverance and dedication. A special thank you to our dedicated teachers and staff, who have nurtured and guided these young minds every step of the way.

Kuwala recently participated in the Under-18 Volleyball Tournament held at Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe at the end of August. The tournament featured five club teams alongside the Kuwala school team. Demonstrating impressive skills and teamwork, Kuwala advanced to the semi-finals after competing against four other teams. Although they did not make it to the finals, four Kuwala players received recognition for their outstanding performance.
Following the event, these exceptional athletes travelled to Blantyre for a training camp in preparation for the National Tournament. We are excited to announce that three athletes from Kuwala—#12 Tamandani, #3 Violet, and #4 Caroline—have secured spots on the Malawi National Volleyball Team. This achievement is a significant milestone for the players and has garnered enthusiasm from their families, highlighting the opportunities that emerged from their Kuwala experiences.
This accomplishment underscores the players’ dedication and illustrates the positive impact of their four years of education at Kuwala, setting the stage for their promising futures in the sport of volleyball.
