Ireen comes from the rural west of Lilongwe and began her education in local primary schools. In 2022, she enrolled at Kuwala Christian Girls School, where she entered Form 2. Following her studies, she sat for the national examinations in 2024 for the Form 4 class, achieving an impressive 15 points. Ireen is embarking on an exciting new chapter in her life!
Thanks to her outstanding academic achievements, she has been chosen to pursue a Degree in Nursing and Midwifery at the prestigious Kamuzu College of Nursing, which is part of the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KuHES). In the meantime, she’s gaining valuable hands-on experience as an assistant laboratory technician at Kuwala. Ireen’s unwavering dedication and passion for healthcare equip her to make a remarkable impact in her field!

Head Teacher Noel interviewed Ireen, who shared insights about how her education at Kuwala Christian Girls School has shaped her future and opened up new opportunities. She attributes her success to the dedication and expertise of the school’s teachers, who provide a comprehensive education that includes various clubs, sports, and arts programs aimed at holistic development. Ireen noted the teachers’ guidance on university life, which has better prepared her for her upcoming transition, emphasizing the importance of hard work and originality.

Ireen explained that high self-esteem and faith in God are essential for preparing for university life, reinforcing the belief that one’s experiences should align with divine will. She adapted to Kuwala’s environment by becoming familiar with its rules, regulations, and schedule, which helped her feel more confident and in control.
To manage stress, Ireen advises students to share their feelings with someone trustworthy and to ensure they get adequate rest and engage in regular physical activity. She credits the dedicated teachers at Kuwala for her achievements, highlighting the resources available, such as books and computers, and the support from management, which provided guidance, counselling, and discipline. Ireen also recognizes the potential for global opportunities with her degree, which could lead to international jobs, scholarships, and the chance to start her own business or projects, thanks to the technological skills she will gain at university.
Mathematics Olympiad – Practice and effort create a bright future.
The Mathematics Olympiad challenge was a highly structured, written mathematics competition that brought together talented students from Kuwala Christian Girls School and Atsikana Pa Ulendo—the engaging event aimed to foster a love for mathematics while encouraging healthy competition among participants. Approximately 220 enthusiastic students from both institutions participated in the challenge, which kicked off at the beginning of the school year, setting the stage for an exciting academic journey.

As the competition progressed, the participants faced increasingly complex mathematical problems that challenged their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By the end of the second term, only the top 20 students from each school advanced to the semi-finals, showcasing their exceptional abilities and demonstrating the rigorous selection process involved.
The intense final round occurred in May at the Abbots School, Atsikana Pa Ulendo, where the atmosphere was filled with anticipation. Ultimately, only 10 of the most skilled competitors qualified to compete in this prestigious round, marking a significant milestone in their academic careers.
Kuwala Christian Girls School excelled throughout the competition, achieving the highest scores in the Form 2 and 3 categories, with impressive results of 87% and 85%, respectively. These achievements were a testament to the students’ unwavering dedication, hard work, and exceptional collaboration with their teachers, who provided invaluable support and guidance.
The event’s culmination saw the award winners recognized for their outstanding performances. Prizes included eye-catching school bags, stylish T-shirts, and prestigious medals, celebrating their remarkable achievements. A heartfelt congratulations goes out to all the Kuwala girls for their exemplary performance and commitment to excellence.
